The Model Garage, in Berkeley CA, is an independent auto repair shop (not a dealership) that specializes in Volvo, Toyota, Lexus, Subaru and Scion cars. We have current factory diagnostic systems for all of the cars we service. Our five mechanics are conscientious professionals who will keep your car purring. We offer, customer-friendly service and repair. In business since 1981, we love dealing with the customers in our area. Quality and honesty are our strengths.

Bruce has been working in the automotive industry since 2010 moving over from several other interesting careers. He's managed a business and is very customer oriented. He and Robert work well together, trying hard to bring you the best in customer service. You’ll often find him in the office or at the front desk.
Robert came to the Model Garage in 2011 and was the first service advisor to work the counter other than Peter or Don. A real car guy, Robert has put together his own replica Cobra and is currently working on another car build project with Bruce. He has worked in the automotive field since the late 1970s, including Volvo’s at another shop across town in the early 1980s. A short stint owning a cocktail lounge helped round out his ability to listen. He has an infatuation with cars and is a tremendous source of knowledge about how they work and what it takes to repair them. Always happy to discuss cars and answer your questions.
Alen started with us in January, 2012 and was a great addition. Efficient and clean, he is doing a wonderful job for us and our customers. Family is very important to him and, with two children, he never gets bored. If you come early, you may see him out front since it makes sense for him to beat the rush.
Humberto started working here in July of 2007. He started working on cars in Peru in 1972 and switched to the United States in 1984. We value his wide experience. He still plays soccer at a high level.
Jimmy has been working on Volvos since 1980. He joined our team in June of 1994 and is our go-to guy for older Volvos. He enjoys going to both ranges—the firing range and the driving range. When the sun goes behind a cloud and it starts drizzling, he’s in his element and can be heard saying “Ah, the sun is out.”
Kyle joined us December 1, 2014. He's young and energetic and has a great deal of experience for his age, having worked at a Toyota dealer for the last five years. Cars are his hobby as well as his job. The Monte Carlo muscle car you may see in our parking lot is an example of his interests.
Zena started at the Model Garage in May of 2010 when Peter got sick and Susan had to take care of him. She not only took over the office and made it hum, she knows the internet and computers due to her background in customer service and tech support for computer software. She’s a banana slug (UC Santa Cruz graduate), and she doubles as our official dog greeter.
Betsy is a lifelong Berkeley resident, practically a neighbor of the Model Garage. She brings with her years of knowledge and experience working with Volvo, Subaru, Lexus and Toyota vehicles. Having driven a Volvo and a Subaru for many years, she can offer practical advice from both sides of the steering wheel.
Frida, the Wonder Dog! At under 4 pounds, many that see her, wonder if she really is a dog. If nothing else, she is truly wonderful. Her duties include Head of Security as well as Customer Relations Manager. She is also working on a new book, “How to nap the day away and get away with it”. Come by just to say hi, she is sure to brighten anyone’s day.
Don is the former owner of the Model Garage. He is retired and enjoys traveling with his wife. Don still frequents the Model Garage to get a cup of coffee and to visit. Please look out for him in your next trip to the shop.
Peter Edinoff, a founder of the Model Garage when it was opened in 1981, passed away in December of 2012. He was proud of his contribution to the shop. We miss him, his mandolin playing, and his Brooklyn sense of humor.
